Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis) are small, thin, white worms that live in the colon and rectum.
They cause itching around the anus, especially at night, when the worms lay eggs.
They spread easily through contact with contaminated hands, bedding, or surfaces.
Treatment is straightforward and usually very effective. All household members are typically treated at the same time to prevent reinfection.
